Dear Family and Friends,We are so happy to report that our son Robert Julian Allen was born on March 24th, 2008. Anna birthed him at 10:54 PM that evening at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He was 7 pounds, 3 ounces at birth and was 19 inches long.
Anna's labor started on Sunday night at about 11:00 PM while we were reading in the the living room. We transitioned to the hospital at 7:00 AM the following morning and Anna delivered him that evening in the presence of her midwife, her mother Marsha, our doula Ann, and myself.
We stayed in the hospital for two nights and are now back at home. The first week of his life has been pretty intense for us, as we're sure it is for all new parents. But it's also been a wonderful time and we will use this blog and our photos on Flickr.com (click here to see them) to share with you some of our joy. Then it will be our pleasure someday to share it with Robby himself.

Hey West Coast Allens,
The midwest Allens (not dad Dave Allen, but Betsy and Dave Allen) are ridiculously happy for you and your beautiful new boy. Our J. Robert Allen can't wait to meet your Robert J. Allen ( can we intermingle names in our family or what) and Riley just wants any future toys he may receive. Hope you bring him through Evanston for a summer tour this year. Keep the faith you will sleep restfully again someday.
